Ski season has just ended, and race season is right around the corner, or already started for some of us. Kevin Callahan has already been racing down on the Front Range, notching a 5th in his category (Cat 3) at the Front Range Classic Crit and 13th in the road race. Starting this Wednesday, Kevin is racing in the Tour of the Gila down in New Mexico. This is a 5 day stage race encompassing 3 days of road racing, a time trial and a criterium. This is a prestigious race that draws professional UCI teams, so the competition will be tough. The upside of the relatively warm winter is that many of us have been able to get on our bikes earlier, and Kevin strong early season form reflects this.
This Saturday Matt Lamm and I took 5th and 6th respectively in our age groups at the Xterra West Championships in Lake Las Vegas, NV. The course was challenging for the first race of the season, but the mild winter allowed us some early training hours, and the time in the pool paid dividends in the swim leg.
The Aspen Cycling Club season starts next Wednesday, April 29th, with the Difficult Time Trial. I am anticipating a strong showing from Team Limelight as we start our defense of the ACC Team Title.
