If you’re looking for things to do in Aspen with kids, it’s important to plan your time well in advance. There are many activities and you won’t want to leave our little mountain town without checking everything off your list!

The most important to-do item is finding a hotel that is kid-friendly and fun. You’ll want access to a pool, great food, and a convenient location. I love the Limelight’s pool and hot tub area because it’s outside and open year round. Kids can spend hours playing in the water after a day on the slopes or the trails. I also love the make-you-own s’mores dessert–it’s an interactive and oh so Colorado treat.

Wintertime Activities

Obviously skiing and snowboarding will be at the top of the list for anyone coming to Aspen with kids in the winter. With four mountains to choose from, kids of all ski/snowboard levels will find the perfect spot to learn new skills, perfect old ones, or even progress to the next level in the terrain park or by hiking the Highlands Bowl.

After skiing, though, there is still plenty to do! The outdoor ice skating rink in the heart of Aspen is a turnkey spot to try a winter sport off the slopes. You can rent all the equipment needed, and CP Burger is located adjacent to the rink. Their milkshakes and burgers are a staple in any Aspen kid’s diet, and they even feature spiked milkshakes for mom and dad. There are plenty of other kid-friendly restaurants in Aspen beyond CP Burger as well.

I’ve already mentioned hot tubbing, but after a chilly day on the slopes, it’s exactly what kids and their parents need to rest those tired legs. Follow that up with a fun family game night with the impressive assortment of board games and puzzles in the Limelight’s lobby, and you’re well on you way to the perfect Aspen vacation.

Summertime Activities

Aspen has a number of fantastic parks and playgrounds for kids to explore. I’ve spent a whole day going from one park to the next, even chasing the sun all the way up to Molly Gibson Park where it stays light the longest before sunset.

If you’re invested in visiting Aspen’s parks and playgrounds, get the entire family outfitted with cruiser bikes to move around even more efficiently. The Limelight Hotel has loaner bikes for guests and Four Mountain Bikes has bike rental options that can take you up a mountain, winding road, or just around town.

It wouldn’t be summer in Aspen with some time spent out on the river. Our local guide companies can customize an outing to fit your group’s size and needs. I love whitewater rafting on the Roaring Fork River, and more recently I’ve also started flyfishing. Both activities provide memorable experiences for kids, and will also really get the excitement levels going!

Finally, head out for a hike! Let your kids choose and lead the way.
