Running trails in Sun Valley (and the entire Wood River Valley) are a great way to enjoy the valley’s landscape. Luckily, there’s a trail for every type of runner.

Lake Creek Trail

If you’re a light jogger and prefer to stay on relatively flat terrain, check out the Lake Creek Trail. This trail is located just four miles north of Ketchum and can be an excellent out and back adventure up the Lake Creek Canyon on the east side of the highway. If you cross the river, it connects to several loop trails that will bring you into more varied terrain. This will take you right up the bank of the Big Wood River, which offers stunning scenery. White Clouds Loop Trail

The White Clouds Loop is great for a quick, easy adventure that’s close to town. This five miler is just east of Sun Valley and has two different access points, Carol’s Trailhead and Earl’s Trailhead. It also connects to the paved Trail Creek trail. These were built in 2008 around the White Cloud Golf Course and is a series of shorter trails that link up to form the loop. One of the best parts about this run (besides the stellar views) is that you can run right from downtown Ketchum to add extra mileage!

Wood River Trail

The Wood River Trail is the result of a community-wide vision to connect history and adventure. The paved trail runs from the Lake Creek Trailhead four miles north of Ketchum to Bellevue, which is 20 miles away. Interpretive signs line the path and provide well-earned water breaks and educational opportunities for those interested in the valley’s history.

Titus Lake

If you want some great mountain scenery and a mild run, drive to the top of Galena Pass and head out to Titus Lake. The out-and-back 3.4 mile jog will reward you with beautiful scenery. Plus, there is a lake to jump into if you need a quick cool down. Map here.

Pioneer Cabin

If you want to get into the high country and are looking for a big run, head out on the Pioneer Cabin Loop. This 8.8 mile run will give your legs and your lungs a good workout. The top of the trail is a rewarding, beautiful view with great photo opportunities in front of the cabin.

Wherever you go, remember that the Limelight Hotel in downtown Ketchum is a great place to rest your weary legs after your adventure.
